Achievement can come in many forms: academic, practical, or personal.  At Jane Norman College we like to recognize achievement.  As you can see below we have monetary awards, awards recognized publicly, and awards to inspire students to go on to higher levels of education.

Prospective Student Awards

Full-time Students

The Dr Jane Norman Entrance Bursary

Available to	ECE & YW applicants for full-time program in Truro who have met the criteria
Award	Between $500 and $1250 for tuition
Criteria	Solid academic transcript
Process for Bursary	Each FT entrance application is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee
Announcement/Communication of Award	The student is contacted regarding acceptance of the bursary If the recipient is currently attending high school the bursary may be announced at the student’s graduation
Timeline	Paid out in 2nd semester

Honor Roll

Available to	ECE,YW, & Teacher Assistant Programs
Award	Honor Roll Certificates
Criteria	Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Process for Honor Roll	Determined by student marks
Announcement/Communication of Award	FT students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher will be announced at Student Recognition in February FT and PT students who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher upon Graduation have the achievement noted in their permanent file and on their diploma/or certificate

Merit Award

Available to	FT ECE & YW
Award	Merit certificate
Criteria	Students must have exhibited positive personal traits towards peers, college and their community.
Process for Merit Award	Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 31 January each year
Announcement/Communication of Award	FT students names will be announced at Student Recognition Luncheon in February and the achievement is noted in the student’s permanent file
Timeline	Student Recognition Lunch – February

All Students

Carmen F. Moir Citizenship Award

Available to	Graduating students both FT and PT
Award	Letter of Achievement and students’ names permanently engraved on award
Criteria	Students must have exhibited a positive attitude and temperament, good work habits and perseverance in the pursuit of goals, a sense of responsibility, considerate relationships with others, and leadership qualities.
Process for Award	Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 15 May
Announcement/Communication of Award	FT and PT students’ names will be announced at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file

The Jocelyne Couture-Nowak Award

Available to	Graduating students
Award	Letter of Achievement and student’s name permanently engraved on award
Criteria	Student must have embraced all aspects of life and openly shared kindness and knowledge, advocates for peaceful solutions and has improved life in their community
Process for Award	Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 15 May
Announcement/Communication of Award	Student’s name will be announced at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file

ECE Diploma & Youth Worker Students

The Kim Kienapple Bursary

Available to	Graduating ECE or Youth Worker student
Award	$750.00 for tuition
Criteria	Graduating student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Vincent University. Solid transcript and good character as determine by the Academic Review Committee.
Process for Scholarship	Student must apply by writing a letter outlining why they should receive the bursary Each letter is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee
Announcement/Communication of Award	Students’ names will be announced at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file
Timeline	Graduation Banquet/Convocation – May

 

The Johnson-MacIntosh Scholarship

Available to	Graduating ECE or Youth Worker student
Award	$750.00 for tuition
Criteria	Graduating student must be pursuing an Inclusion and Intervention Diploma at Jane Norman College. Solid transcript and good character as determine by the Academic Review Committee.
Process for Scholarship	Student must apply by writing a letter outlining why they should receive the scholarship. Each letter is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee
Announcement/Communication of Award	Students’ names will be announced at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file
